Introductions first. That’s always important. My name is Mason. I’m in charge of IT Operations and Marketing for Florida Cannabis Supply. You’re probably trying to decide why I should continue reading. That’s fair. It’s a big decision. Have I earned the right to steal some of your time for a few minutes?

Well, here’s what we’re going to cover.

  1. Intro
  2. Brief History
  3. Why Cannabis?
  4. Conclusion

So, here goes.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Cannabis Virgin

I’m a writer. I’ve always loved to write. I started when I was in middle school. It lasted through high school and college. Then, I had a chance to do it professionally. Nothing glamorous. I was in television news for 10 years before transitioning to the marketing agency life. Then, generative AI became a thing. Writing was and is being taken over in large part by computers. Don’t get me wrong; I use AI too, but I still prefer to write my thoughts for good or ill.

With this knowledge, I decided to upskill and reskill. I enrolled in a cybersecurity boot camp at my own expense. Fast forward nearly a year, and here I am at Florida Cannabis Supply.

Why Cannabis?

It may shock you to know I’ve never used cannabis. Not one single time. Now I grew up in Western Kentucky. The stuff is readily available. You’d think I’d had a chance. Nope. Never. I didn’t use it in college. I’ve not used it as an adult. Sure. I’ve smelled it. But I don’t know much, if anything at all, about it.

So, as the title of this section queries: why cannabis? I say, why not? I’ve always been a proponent of its use. You’d think since I grew up in the D.A.R.E. era, I’d be woefully against it. Nah. It never really made sense to me. I am, and always have been, an analytical person and “thinker.” I am rarely irrational.

The basis for my support of cannabis use is very basic: I’m pro-choice. A human’s body is their body. They can do what they want with it.

The State of Cannabis

As cannabis continues its trajectory from the fringes to the mainstream, a comprehensive understanding of its use and effects is more critical than ever. Statistics from leading research institutions and government health organizations paint a detailed picture of who is using cannabis, and public sentiment.

Public Opinion and Legality

Public support for cannabis legalization has seen a dramatic increase over the past two decades. A 2024 poll by the Pew Research Center reveals that a staggering 88% of U.S. adults believe cannabis should be legal in some form. This support is broken down into 57% who favor legalization for both medical and recreational use and 31% who support it for medical use only. A mere 12% of Americans believe it should not be legal at all. This widespread acceptance is a significant shift from the year 2000, when only 31% of adults supported legalization.

This change in public opinion is reflected in the legal landscape. As of early 2025, 24 states and the District of Columbia have legalized recreational cannabis, while 38 states and D.C. permit its use for medical purposes.

Who Uses Cannabis? A Demographic Snapshot

Data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provide a clear profile of cannabis users in the United States.

In 2023, approximately 19.3% of people aged 12 or older (about 54.7 million individuals) reported using cannabis in the past year.

  • By Age: Young adults have the highest rates of cannabis use. In 2023, 35.4% of individuals aged 18 to 25 reported using cannabis in the past year. This is followed by adults aged 26 and older at 17.6%, and adolescents aged 12 to 17 at 10.9%.
  • By Gender: Historically, males have reported higher rates of cannabis use than females. In 2023, 22.3% of males aged 12 or older used cannabis in the past year, compared to 16.5% of females.
  • By Race and Ethnicity: Among those aged 12 and older in 2023, the highest rates of past-year cannabis use were among individuals who identify as multiracial (30.1%), followed by American Indian or Alaska Native (25.8%), Black or African American (22.5%), White (19.2%), Hispanic or Latino (17.5%), and Asian (9.8%).

The Cannabis Question: Now What?

There are many other reasons why people use cannabis. I’m not a doctor, nor is anyone at FCS. We can’t give you medical advice. If you are a customer or thinking about being a customer, you have your reasons. What I listed above, I did for one simple reason: you aren’t alone in your use or desire to use. And as long as you are a responsible adult 21 or older, do as you please. FCS is here to provide you with quality products.

Now, will I use it? The answer is yes.

They say good writers write what they know. Oh sure. I can spit out facts and give you data, but I can’t write about how cannabis use makes me feel. That makes me no better than AI. Why? I always tell people that AI can tell you how to bake a cake. It can’t tell you why you bake the cake. That’s why you need a human. The same logic applies. I can’t relate to our current or future customers without believing in the product. To do so is unethical.

Now, I don’t know when my first time will be. I have some requirements. If you’re interested, maybe my next blog will be about what those are and why they are essential to me. You let me know.

Until next time, be epic people.
